The large structure just forward of amidships is the laser engine. This is where the laser beam is actually produced and is then sent to the beam splitter which can direct the beam out of either the dorsal, ventral, or both emitters. The saw-tooth shape of the engine is to assist in cooling the weapon during firing. |
