More writing to be done

Posted 25th October 2010 at 07:50 AM by w h pugmire, esq.

Hullo, my darlings:--

I am not too active online any longer for a number of reasons, but moftly because I am obsessively writing my wee books. This frantic creativity is, in part, due to ye death of a dear friend, Joyce, who passed away from heart failure this past June. I had no idea she had a bad heart, and she was but five months older than myself! It makes me feel so very mortal and I have so many books I yet want to write that I have become obsess'd with working on them and ignoring all else.

I did have a great time at the Lovecraft Film Festival, despite poor health whut made walking a pain and had me retire early each and every night. I shared a room with Jerad Walters of Centipede Press, and the first thing I noticed when I entered our motel room was a yellow book on my bedside table! It was one of six pre-publication copies of The Tangled Muse, and it is BEAUTIFUL. We were hoping to have the final version publish'd by month's end, but then we had some very annoying problems with one of ye living artists and had to remove her art from the book, which means Jerad has to revamp the entire book. But this is good, because now we will replace the forbidden art with new original drawings by Gwabryel, the wonderful Swiss artist who has done much work for Centipede. And I was able to locate and correct some additional typos. There was one typo that really drove me crazy. I had typed "...as the clock peels it final chime..." -- great Yuggoth!!! We have corrected it to "...peals its final hour..." The front of the book looks simply wonderful, with a yellow board so as to conjure ye aura of ye Yellow Nineties, that delicious fin-de-siecle. I'll try to download an image in me photo album.

S. T. Joshi drove me down to the Festival, and before we left he and I recorded a new video interview on YouTube. He brought me a sign'd set of I Am Providence, and it is simply stunning.

I've been watching Will Hart's Fungi from Yuggoth videos on YouTube, where he reads one sonnet per video and has the poem's lines reproduced in the H. P. Lovecraft font available from HPLHS. This finally got me to work on a project that has been in my heart for some time, a prose-poem/vignette sequence in 36 segments, with each segment inspir'd by one of HPL's sonnets. I have ye first one completed and am working of ye rough of ye second. My initial plan was to try and have each segment 1,000 words, thus giving me a wee booklet of around 40,000 words that I cou'd peddle as chapbook to Larry Roberts or some such. But I think perhaps, if inspiration is with me, some of ye segments cou'd turn into vignettes of 2,000 or 3,000 words. I'm working in an effort to get as much of the book completed before we congregate in Phoenix in January for MythosCon.

My best wishes to y'all.
