GUNPOWDER and ALCHEMY

And now a break from my usual type of post for a little self-promotion:

When the Goblin Moon rises, strange things happen ...

Coffins float down the river, hobgoblins emerge from their dens, alchemists pore over ancient texts in search of the secret of creating life, and the gentleman blackguards known as the Knights of Mezztopholezz practice rituals far exceeding the worst excesses of the Hellfire Club.

Meanwhile one man fights a secret battle against cruelty and injustice, with wit, ingenuity, and a lethal lack of compunction.

"In an era of dross, when most fantasy novels seem to be only role playing games writ large, Ms. Edgerton has set out in search of the true Philosopher's Stone — her genuine writer's voice."
—Tad Williams

"Everything I wished for and more ... Excellent, excellent, excellent!"
—Kate Elliott

"As satisfying a modern novel as one could wish for. Stylish and inventive, with a unique flavor interweaving the best of the romantical reality of a particular period in history with a highly original use of fantasy elements."
— Baird Searles, Asimov's Science Fiction

Practically unique. The only thing I've read that might sit comfortably alongside it is Susanna Clarke's Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell.

I'm trying to get better at it.

I'm about to order copies to send to reviewers, so that I can get some reviews that weren't written back in 1991.

Have you thought about selling signed copies on Ebay.

Maybe a personal letter telling the reader how the journey of writing the book was for you.

    Fans would love it!!

You might not make a great profit, but Ebay listings show well in Google searches and you won't loose money but it will lead to more enqiries.

I've thought about opening an ebay store, to sell GM and some left-over author's copies of some of my other books, but my husband is against the idea. We'll have to wait and see if I can bring him around.

Well if you keep it simple, no shop subscription just a few listings, then costs are manageble.

If someone googles you or your key words theres a chance of them buying into your writing and your books. I'm sure when they do they'll get into your stories, the sales will flood in.

Just tell hubby he's wrong and your in charge - gulp!

Joking apart, it's free advertising unless you sell then Ebay get their commission but you get your cut also, so it's all good.

Thanks to the sample chapter and the above ingredients list, I'll be buying this on the day of release. (Sadly it will be too late for me to take on holiday.) How will it work with Amazon.co.uk, though? (I think you said elsewhere it would be available from there.) Will they hold stock, or will you have to ship it from the States?

Impressed you got a review from Tad Williams. If this was 1991, he must have been very big at the time. How did that come about?

And how quickly do you plan to release the sequels?

Yes, Tad Williams was a big name in 1991, but he was a friend of mine, so I knew he would at least read the book if my editor sent it to him.

They've messed up the distribution, so I'm not sure right now whether it will be on amazon.co.uk, which is why I went back and removed that from all the publicity materials. I hope I will be able to get that cleared up in a few days. It was supposed to be part of the deal.

But in any case, it is available now through Lulu. It's POD and I'm pretty sure they have a facility in England where they'll print the book in 3-5 days and send it by Royal Mail. According to their website they do that.

There is a link in this thread and the Press Release. Maybe it wasn't clear that it was a link. Some people might have thought the red was for emphasis and they thought they could only get the book through me right now. Not the case. I guess I should change the link to make it more obvious.

I do get a much larger royalty from Lulu, but anyone who is paying the yearly fee to amazon to get Amazon Prime (US) or Super Saver (UK), should of course wait until the book is available there and get the free shipping.

Anyway, thanks. I hope that—whenever you are able to get it — you will enjoy it.

As for sequels, there's only one. The story is complete in two volumes. I hope to get the second one out in the next twelve months. Maybe sooner. We learned a lot about the self-publication process with GM, so the next one should be easier. I'm adding some short stories as a bonus, and retitling the second book Hobgoblin Night.

The Queen's Necklace is in a similar sort of setting, but it's a different world and different characters. I hope to publish that soon, too.

I believe Goblin Moon was before it's time. Most readers still wanted epic fantasy. I think this is the right time.

Teresa -- just to let you know that the link doesn't work for me (something about my virus checker eats it) but going straight to Lulu and searching for 'Goblin Moon' worked just fine.

Hmmm. It still works for me. I wonder if it really is your virus checker, or if other people are having the same problem.
