The absence of pain

Over the last weekend, I was suffering from bad pains in my jaw, not quite toothache, but very close. A couple of years ago, I cracked a tooth when I bit down into a piece of cake (well, malt loaf) and found a grape pip. I went to the dentist about it, and she diagnosed not only the cracked tooth, but also some bruising to the nerves. There wasn't much she could do about the pain, except prescribing painkillers, but I had the crack fixed up in the next visit.
And everything was fine, until a couple of days ago. Evidently, I've started grinding my teeth in my sleep, and it started the pain up again. I think it's due to stress, but whatever the cause, the pain was serious enough to keep me awake for most of Saturday and Sunday night. I'm still trying to catch up on my sleep now, but at least the pain has gone.
I'm still worried about doing it again, though that seems like a vicious circle. It's funny, how you never truly appreciate the absence of pain until you suffer it.

I hope the pain hasn't come back again. Hope you're not feeling too stressed, either.
And as for your last sentence... I really couldn't agree more! It's not something I ever had to think about until recently, and like you, I took it completely for granted.
I don't think I shall ever do so again.......Posted 6th April 2010 at 01:40 AM by Sephiroth
