Oh, I’m a real worry! Old age and forgetfulness seems to be the order of the day.

Not so long ago I hung my washing in the wardrobe to dry. Then just a few minutes ago the phone rang – so I picked up my coffee cup to answer it! Luckily the coffee had gone cold, as is usual, so at least I didn’t get scalded. I’m wondering what I will do next – any suggestions? Oh, that should read 'helpful and nice' suggestions, otherwise, who knows what suggestions I might reveive!

The Owl

Posted 24th August 2008 at 07:10 AM by Rosemary

One morning, I sat on a tree stump for about 15 minutes, looking up into the tree branches all around. I could hear an owl up there but could I see it? No! Oh well, at least I know there is one still in our neighbourhood, despite the encroaching new suburbs which are taking away the birds and animals homes.

Yeah, they're kinda like Jays - more easily heard than seen. Try going back late afternoon and waiting into the evening a bit if time allows.
As for the ageing thingy, you seem to do great to me Rosie!! Nice but unhelpful.

Do you get Tawny Frogmouths over there, Rosie? (Though, tecnically, I don't know that they are actually classed as owls...) I know they are hard to spot, as they look just like the stump of a branch, and sit perfectly still during the day.

Yes, we have Tawny Frogmouths, Cul. You are right, they do look like the stump of a branch!

I've only seen two in all the years I have lived here, one being a baby one that had fallen out of the tree. Luckily we were able to get it back again.
