Delights of Procrastination

Posted 30th April 2010 at 06:58 AM by Majimaune

I am indeed procrastinating at this current time, and also wishing that my work would do itself. It would be oh so kind if it did.

I've never really written a blog thing before so I'm not sure how this is going to turn out. Let's just wait and see.

At the moment I should really be working on an English essay, about how the Industrial Revolution influenced poetry at the time, namely Blake and Wordsworth. Finding references is getting difficult though. Google Books has been failing me, my library failed me even more and so I'm not too sure which way to turn now. I might have to head into the city to perhaps the State Library as it is nice and big and should have some stuff I can use.

Music, I can talk about music. So I'm excited, I'm headed to a few concerts in the very near future and there are also several albums coming out this year from local unsigned bands that I like and I'm really looking forward to those.

I'm going to try to go camping with some friends soon. Camping? In the middle of winter you say? Well yes, in the middle of winter. It means big bon fires and when you go home again you appreciate the warmth of a bed so much more. It makes sense.

I don't really know what else I could put here so I think that'll be it for today.

Until next time when I am procrastinating...

Geoff.

I have got the worst case of procrastination ever at the moment. I've had some pretty severe bouts on most of my essays during my years at university, but this one's huge. This may be the last essay I ever have to write (it's a 5,000 word beastie) but I just can't find the motivation for it. I just want to write scripts all the time now...

Finding references becomes an art form. You're never going to find books (well, mostly) that talk about exactly what you want, so you have to pore through through all kinds of books to find little sections that'll be useful for what you're writing. I'm writing about National Consciousness and the Awareness, Construction and Performance of it in regards to Renaissance travellers in the Middle East (catchy, eh? And I made this one up myself...) so I can use books on Nationalism, what led to a rise in such, Renaissance history, travel accounts, books about travel accounts, performance and identity theory, Orienatalism....

    It's all good fun.

If only I could afford any real procrastination right now. It might SEEM like I am at the moment, but believe you me, this is a mere break. Procrastinating is what I did LAST weekend, haha.....no way can I afford it THIS time around.

I'm not sure about the books to which you cannot gain access - i.e. whether they are texts from that era or more recent commentaries - but you could try Project Gutenberg (Main Page - Gutenberg).

Good luck with the search, wherever you do it.
