Here's a review in the New York Times by someone who has the most cursory understanding of genre- actually, I think he hasn't even peered past the covers.
He uses a most... striking... simile to demonstrate the full blizzardy expanse of his ignorance too.

If you're referring to the simile at the beginning, I thought that was tongue in cheek.
