Passive Voice...

Posted 23rd September 2009 at 11:47 PM by Gary Compton

I found this information (From a friend) quite useful in trying to eradicate the passsive voice from my story. Any of these words can lead to passive voice - allegedly.

eg Gary was felling a little depressed.

Be, Is, Am, Are, Has/had been, It/he/she/person, place or thing was, were. Check for clarity and strength: Could, should, would, might have, should have, around, about, sort of, kind of. Check for excessive wording, for some reason etc.

Look through...

Friends, a little help from them!

Posted 4th May 2009 at 09:21 PM by Gary Compton

Well having recently got critiqued in critiques section it became apparent that I have many failings in my writings.

But out of the blue one of my official friends offered to help me overcome the problems - mostly grammatical and POV related things.

Well I must say it was a pleasure as I actioned her criticism. She's a English teacher and boy is she hard to please. But me being a bit of a sado-masochist it was very enjoyable.

Because I'm too much of a gentleman...

Critiquing is the way forward

Posted 18th April 2009 at 09:45 PM by Gary Compton

Well my writings are currently getting looked at by the wise, all seeing, all knowing eye, that is the critiques section.

The guys there are a great help if your willing to open your mind. Unfortunately yesterday we had another "spitting out the dummy episode" by someone who said they were very protective of their work. Ho Ho!!

I dont understand the concept, if you want to get published you need to be very thick skinned from day one...thank God life has given...
