Okay, picture this, lights in my living room are off. TV on, laptop on and I'm watching election results. My Basset hound, Murphy jumped on the settee and rested his front paws and chest across my lap.

So the Wife, bless her, is asleep upstairs, as is daughter. Son has left home a while back. Harvey, the other Basset has gone to bed with Mam.

So back to Murphy, he moves his head back and stares up at me. I could've sworn he puckered his lips. I moved my face toward him and he licks my face and a look of total and utter love fills his eyes.

Ah bless I thought. It's nice to be loved.

I gave him a chocolate biscuit. I love dogs more than humans you know, they seem to understand me.

Nighty night...

Agreed, its nice to be loved. I personally prefer the quiet way cats love to the wet way dogs do, but I'm very glad not all people love the same way. It would take out too much of the mystery, and distroy half the satisfaction of being loved if it were something uniformly expressed throughout creation.

I'd rather dogs had evolved to express their affections with a firm handshake rather than all that French-style slobbering, but each to his own.

Dogs for the win. I've never seen a cat show affection to anybody! (No offence).

My boy's not a slobberer, but he does gaze adoringly.

Bet you weren't like that on your wedding night HB. "Let's go to the room early darling. I'm dying to give you a firm handshake."

I doubt you said that, more like, "Get up them stairs love, it's time to do what rabbits do best."

Nowt wrong with a bit of slobbering either. I must admit I do like cats, they're lovely curried. I mean after all, I am a northerner so we do eat any meat available up here and occasionally naughty children

naughty children are always tough, but I suppose if there is nothing else... and you give them a good tenderizing first...
