The Countdown Ticks Slowly Down...
Posted 25th September 2008 at 09:01 AM by Perpetual Man
Some of you are probably more than aware that Mrs Perpetual Man and myself are getting close to having our first baby. It's been an interesting 7 -8 months, with everything going just about as perfectly as it can go.
But as anyone who I chat to regularly will be aware my presence on the Chrons has suddenly become next to negligable (I do check in once in while to see what is going on!)
In the last week or so the doctors and midwives have noticed that her blood pressure is elevated, and have been wanting to keep a greater eye on her.
Suddenly our routine is ripped apart. I have to drive her up to hospital (Its about 12 miles away) three times a week; she's had to stay in for a weekend, been allowed home on the strick intstructions she does as little as possible (more for me to do!!), she gets upset that I'm doing my best to work, then come home, cook meals, clean up afterwards and do my best to get keep the house clean, and finish getting ready for a baby, not to mention the sudden cancellation of all my regular activities.
So far this week I've lost the better part of two days work, going up tothe hospital. It's annoying because all that is done seems to take about an hour at most, but is spread over six hours... six hours of sitting around in an over bright and warm waiting room, wondering if the reason it's takking so long is because they've found something serious out...
Is it any wonder her (and funnily enough, my) blood pressure is up?

| | Even if they don't find anything, Perp, ya gotta do it. Are you sitting in the waiting room with her, at least, or are you waiting for them to finish with her? The former has possibilities, the latter would be stressful, indeed. Pulling for you, the missus and The Eventual Babe, we Chronsians are....! |

| | Thanks for the comments Grim, made me smile. Today was yet another day of plodding up to the hospital and was there from 9.30 am until 6.00pm. Actual time with medical professionals 40 minutes tops. The rest of the time was spent in the waiting room (Oh how I begin to hate that waiting room), the sun belting through the window, no air conditioning, it's just hot, hot, hot. And I'm not one of the pregnant women, I don't want to know how they feel. Bottom line is that Mrs Perp is back in hospital again, all things considered the best place and care for her, but it's been a long day and I have the feeling there are going to be a few more before the baby comes... |

| | Well, there's nothing for it then but to bring the massive pile of "to-be-read" SFF books in with you and begin making a dent in them, I'm afraid. On the off-chance that you might not have a "to-be-read" pile, might I suggest Janny Wurts (shocker, that...)? Her Wars of Light and Shadow series is well into the thousands of pages; if you can keep the waiting-room-induced (ooh, far too tantalizing a word, that one...sorry!) sweat from smearing the pages, that series (or, of course, any substitute of your preference) would keep you distracted a little, perhaps, or at least make the waiting seem a little more bearable? *Wishes continued good thoughts for The Family P* |

| | Two weeks later on and the finishing line is just about in sight. As with any case of impending birth there is no definate finishing line, although the due date is officially in about 10 days of the time of writing. Since the last posting Mrs P. has been at home. It seems that the doctors did listen when we said that the problem with her blood pressure was constantly going to the hospital and back again and we've been having midwife visits at home. Her BP has been just about normal. However she has been seen by a different midwife every time, each with a different opinion as to what is going to happen next. Today we are actually going up to the hospital.... and the last midwife said they might enduce her. So next time I get back to the computer the countdown might have stopped. (And Grim - thanks for the book recommendations. Like so many people around here I seem to have a massive pile to read, but I shall add Janny Wurts series to the list at some point. I might get around to reading them when the baby turns 18!) ![]() |

| | Very good news about the blood pressue, and wishing for continued such good developments, P. As for the reading, alas, all too familiar a tale (although my youngest is 8, so I only have 10 more years until I get around to reading the rest of my pile! )... |

| | Very happy to hear Mrs P is back home and feeling better. Hopefully that will last and then Little Perp can make a grand appearance. ![]() |

| | Thanks for the sentiments Rosemary, whish I could add some good news, but yesterday saw everything take a nosedive again. A simple check up turned into a nightmare, and with under ten days to the due date she had been readmitted to go through the same tests and observations she has already been through twice already. To say she is upset is an understatement. In my humble opinion she is more wound up in hospital than she ever would have been at home - and to make it worse everyone - doctor's, nurses and midwives all seem to be telling us different things. Which makes it all worse... If I keep typing I'll start ranting and that's not a good thing! I'll update as and when... |

| | Bad luck, Perp! Hang in there chief. May all this testing be the worst thing that happens, certainly. |

| | Ah, since the main forum is down for the upgrade, I've re-discovered the blogs (the Chrons cringes in fear!!!). Since I have the day off, I've decided that I'm going to be lazy, drink coffee and peruse the other parts of the Chrons I've not frequented of late. That having been said, just checking in on you, the Missus and Perp Jr. Getting any sleep? ![]() |
