here's a brand new, wonderfully wonky concept for a fantasy/sf genre.

Tudorpunk.

blood, gore, fancy clothes, religious schisms... all we need is a technological gimmick. i can't quite see Babbage's computational engines in this period....

now, if it still works when i've actually woken up......

Newton's Golem Works is surely a title that deserves a story...

Well, I remember that Sir John Harington invented the flush toilet during the reign of Elizabeth I ... but I don't suppose that's quite what you had in mind.

But speaking of Dr. Dee, he invented a mechanical flying beetle. I am sure there is room some place in SFF literature for a book about how Francis Drake defeated the Spanish Armada by launching a swarm of clockwork bugs.

Drake's Clockwork Swarm is, similarly, a title that deserves a story...

I've just bought at book that may actually be Tudorpunk. The Silver Skull by Mark Chadbourn. I will report my findings after I read it.
