Avari... Is anyone else fascinated by the concept of the Avari (the race of elves who remained in the far east beside Cuvienen)? The idea of a race of primordial, non-eldar elves living in the forests of the east is really engaging for me. Does anyone have any information on them? I only have the names of seven of their languages, and some vague reference about them drifting into non-existence. Also, is there any info on if the Ents survived to find the Entwives? I'd always wondered about that... Cheers!

Re: Avari... You can always check The Encyclopedia of Arda for information on them. I don't think there is a record that the Ents found the Entwives at all -- and that is a sad tale, that is. To be wandering endlessly to find a mate...that is cruel.

Re: Avari... The Encyclopedia of Arda is not exactly the most reliable source of information on Tolkien. Many of the entries are incomplete, some of them are wrong, and some of them are right. You have to check what they say against the books. As for the Avari, you might want to read my essay "The Wild, Wild Wood Elf West". There isn't a great deal about them. But you also have to understand that they sort of evolved out of something else through the decades.
