| World Wide Suicide -Pearl Jam Pearl Jam, according to Billboard Charts, has released one of the highest Modern Rock debuts ever with their first studio single under their new label, J Records. "World Wide Suicide," an overtly political protest song in regards to the Iraq War, is the first single to come off of their forthcoming self titled album to be released in May. The lyrics have been reposted at the bottom of this thread. Pearl Jam has released the single online for free listening, so click HERE if you wish to take a listen. Let the rest of us know what you think. Myself, I like it. It sounds like vintage Pearl Jam....vintage No Code to Riot Act era PJ tunes, that is. Quote:

| Re: World Wide Suicide -Pearl Jam I voted "it's okay" about a week or so ago. Now that I've had a couple of chances to sit and really listen to it, I'm going to say I love it. I feel like it's the best thing they've done since Vs. It's just as good as almost anything on Ten. I know they've been trying to distance themselves from their early sound with every album since their debut. Vs. was great, but I think that all their subsequent work was far more miss than hit. If this song is indicative of the whole new album I'll definitely be down with Pearl Jam again. |

| Re: World Wide Suicide -Pearl Jam Actually, I really like Yield and Binaural. While I enjoyed the early energy, Pearl Jam was meant to be more than a garage rock band with noodling bluesy solos. On the other hand, the 'we too are Neil Young' slowed down and kinda lazy vibe in Riot Act didn't work for me, even if it took of directly from the last 2 albums. If this new single signals a return of some of that fire, I think that's a good sign. |
