Re: Alphabetical SFF

A few more "D"s I've come up with:-
Dyson sphere, djinni, doppleganger., DAW, dark matter, drone, Dorsai, Cyrano de Bergerac, Disbelief, suspension of, the ultimate aim of speculative fiction.

Still, I'd apreciate knowing the rules! Should I be posting no more than one entry per category? (this would give more people a chance to join in, but some letters would go on for quite a while) How do we decidewhen a letter has ground to a halt, and no more suggestions are forthcoming? And what constitutes cheating? Obviously, an alphabetically indexed encyclopedia of speculative fiction, should one exist, but how about carrying a notebook at all times and writing down ideas, under their relevant letters, where and when they surfaced (which I cheerfully own up to doing; the notebook was already with me, it's merely gained some alphabetical divisions)? Or asking a friend, or googling something you already nearly know? Cyril, the perpetrator of this thread, hasn't been around recently to interrogate.

How true (somewhere between "rude" and "rune"): and how much like life, that you don't learn what you were playing for until it's almost over.
Heaves deep, extremely philosophical sigh.

Fantastical Beasts, E:

Eldarin -

A celestrial race.
They are knights and lords who roam the cosmos in search of good folk 2 aid.

Elemental.
Elementals are incarnations of the elements that compose existence.

Elf.

Humanoid gaurdians of the forrest.
Generally taller more slender and physically beautiful than humans.

Etheral Marauder

Etheral Marauders are aggressive predetors that can move quickly from the etheral plane to attack people and creatures on the material plane.

Ettercap

A revolting creature which resembles a cross between a gangly human and a gross, bloated spider.
Evil race

Egors

Well, like frankenstien really, Terry Pratchett made these into a whole new race.

Ettin

A hulking giant that has two heads, they are unpredictable hunters that stalk the night. Thier two heads make them exceptionally sharp eyed and alert.

Re: Alphabetical SFF

Ents (Tolkien)
A race of giant, tree-like people whose purpose was to protect the forests of Middle-earth. By the end of the Third Age, the great forests had dwindled, and so had the Ents, but they were still to be found in Fangorn Forest.

Eagles (Tolkien)
The great birds who were the friends of Elves and Men in Middle-earth; the mightiest of the Eagles was Thorondor, who dwelt in the Encircling Mountains; he and his kin carried spirits akin to the Maiar.

Eric (Terry Pratchett):
Fourteen-year-old demonologist. Lives in Midden Lane, Psudopolis (next door to the tannery). Had a grandfather with a succubus fixation. Slim, dark-haired, acne attack ground zero. Not too bad at his work. According to some, terribly bright and self-centered. Has the normal for his age hormone storm.

Esoteric Order Of Dagon (Lovecraft):
Pagan religious cult located in Innsmouth, Massachusetts from the early 1840s to February, 1928. The religion was attributed with the sudden and abundant return of fine fishing to the area and was embraced by the local townsfolk as the result. The order became the greatest influence in town, replacing Free Masonsry all together and taking up headquarters in the old Masonic Hall on New Church Green. Priests of the order are rarely seen by human eyes, and then only as passing shadows that haunt the observer with their sinister qualities. Priests wear the Tiara of the Deep Ones as a badge of their station.

Eibon (Clark Ashton Smith):
Eibon was a sorcerer and priest of Zhothaqquah (Tsathoggua). He holds renown as the writer of the Book of Eibon, a tome that, among other things, chronicles Eibon's life, and includes his magical formulae and rites of Zhothaqquah. He lived in a five-story, five-sided tower made of black gneiss that stood beside the sea on Mhu Thulan. Eibon disappeared shortly after Yhoundeh's premier inquisitor, Morghi, came to his black tower with a writ for his arrest.
