But the "rot in Aerys' reign" was supposed to have begun with Varys joining his court. i.e. Varys is said to have undermined the unstable Aerys by constantly working on the King's suspicions.
If that version of things is true, then Varys isn't exactly pro-Targ. Besides, could anyone imagine Rhaegar working smoothly alongside Varys?
I don't know Illyrio's or Varys' real game. But I don't think either of them is a Targaryen loyalist. |
