Re: International Book Deal

Great news Mark! Is there any way for you to find out how many copies of the Italian version of Imperial Spy have been sold, or is that not information that gets back to the author with foreign rights deals?

It is information that should get back to me eventually, Patrick, but by the time it reaches me it will be out of date. I do take particular heart, however, in the fact that they have not just taken up the option, but they are looking to translate it and publish it very quickly. That alone speaks volumes for how they think it's all going.

Re: International Book Deal

Terrific news about the translations, Mark. It is very weird for an author to see their work in another language! My 'Dracula the Undead' made it into Korean and they split a fairly slim book into TWO even slimmer volumes - very strange! I hope they will give you nice covers...

Thanks, Freda. Nice to see you around again. I've been stupidly busy recently, so only seem to pop in briefly these days. Must try to catch up with you again properly soon. It seems ages since I came to Ashby.

Re: International Book Deal

It's the New Year and time for another little fanfare announcement. I can now release that another translation deal has been struck, this time with Random House Books in Germany, who are buying the German translation rights for all the Imperial books and all of the Dragon Orb books. It's a very nice bonus to begin the year on such a positive note.

My understanding is that they intend to launch the Imperial books all at once in Autumn 2008 and then begin publishing the Dragon Orb books in Spring 2009, following the UK release programme, but roughly 6 months behind.

Re: International Book Deal

Congrats Mark! That's a pretty sweet deal (which, I feel, ensures the likelihood that other languages won't be too far behind).

I'm sure Irish is pretty low on the list. Afrikaans might beat it easily

Re: International Book Deal

Thanks very much for your good wishes everyone. To date this means that aside from English, the Imperial books will be published in:

Italian, French, German, Danish & Romanian (for those who haven't read the thread all the way through.)

The German deal for the Dragon Orb books is the first such contract. I hope you're right, Dean, and that this is the first of many. It's certainly a very positive sign.

Re: International Book Deal

Wow, five languages! And English of course. Not bad at all.
Im sure the publishers will be quick to snap up deals on the dragon orb books.
