Well, sure, but Glasgow is closer to London than Los Angeles is to San Francisco, and we got lots of people assuming that Disneyland must be right next door to ConJose in 2002 because everything in California was (psychologically) in the same place. After dealing with a lot of such people, I was actually quite relieved that nobody coming to the 2002 Worldcon flew to LAX and tried to take a taxi to the convention.
But I suppose everyone knows that "An American thinks 100 years is a long time, and a European thinks 100 miles is a long distance."
(And as far as I'm concerned, Southern California
is a different state, if not another country.
