A picture is worth a thousand words, but is it worth a thousand books?

I'll give it a shot. This is about 50%. I'm scattered over a couple of rooms.

Good effort Seve, had some trouble making out some of the specific Titles though..

The fact there's presumbably US vs. UK covers here makes it even more challenging in terms of recognising specific books from their covers/spines but still fun. Yeh I know I need to get out more...

Can we also assume you're a fan of Baseball then?....

Well, this picture is the only one I've got of my collection, and, as it's currently on the other side of the world, it'll have to do...
Suffice to say, imagine that, with four more shelves the same

Since my vast international experience consists of an afternoon trip to Windsor, Ontario just across the Canadian border I really am not
conscious of this like different book jackets for different countries. The other thing to consider is some of my collection is old. I've been collecting books for probably 40 years. Original covers and rereleases are frequently different. Some of my paperbacks were purchased used and are older than I am (and that's old) One of the giveaways is the price listed at $0.35 as compared to $ 7.99 for current bestsellers in paperback. (I'll show the relative cost because I know there are several currencies in use by members and I can't convert many myself.) AS to your second question, I've been a Chicago Cub fan since the late fifties. One of the balls visible on the top of one of the bookcases was signed by Billy Williams, a Hall of Fame outfielder who played when I was growing up.

Re: Show us you fantasy/ficiton-bookcollection!

Thanks for the update Steve.

Very nice to correspond with someone who has been around the book scene for some time.

I think your more into SF than fantasy?

Do you by any chance have copies of any of the US SFF or Horror pulp magazines of the 1920s - 50s? I happen to have an interest in these by way of certain authors (esp. the mags Weird Tales and Amazing Stories but others too) like Robert E. Howard, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Clark Ashton Smith, HP Lovecraft, Ftriz Leiber, Robert Bloch, Seabury Quinn, Henry Kuttner etc..so just wondered?

Re: Show us you fantasy/ficiton-bookcollection!

I've read some of their stories but I always found them in short story collections. The only magazines close to what you're thinking of are SF mags from the 70s and 80s.

Fair enough, just figured you might have had some collector's items for Weird Tales magazine issues pre 1950.

Happy reading....

Yep.... mine are in piles on the floor... I currently have 87 books in my 'to read' pile alone, and about another 2 or 3 hundred around my room (which is absolutely tiny) I've currently been banned from buying/ swapping/ borrowing any more books until I've read at least half of the books on my pile. I'm suffering, though, cos I have this weird thing about buying books... like other ppl do drugs, I do books

Re: Show us you fantasy/ficiton-bookcollection!

Well lady, i have the same new desire to buy new titles all the time. My trick is to buy at least 6 books and read them one by one, and then go back for another batch. You will never end your current books, if you buy new books all the time and havent even read your last 10 books yet.

So th question goes, do you buy books because of the materia/nice covers, or because of the reading value?
