Re: Show us you fantasy/ficiton-bookcollection! My book collection is all haphazard right now, stacked two deep in no particular order on 3 bookshelves plus a bunch more in boxes I've never unpacked because there's nowhere to *put* them. I did get two new bookshelves for Christmas. I don't think that they'll hold everything, but I still can't wait to put together so I can organize to my heart's content. ![]() Since others have gone this route, here's the virtual shelves: Fantasy Science Fiction (or fantasies w/sci-fi trappings in some cases)

Re: Show us you fantasy/ficiton-bookcollection! Am going to make myself woozy trying to read the titles of all the books here and will probably need to go out and hold up the Treasury after this to buy all the titles I've been scribbling down. All my books are in crates in a warehouse but, but, but .... they will be out and on shelves in their new home by the first of March (tail crossed real tight). ![]()

Re: Show us you fantasy/ficiton-bookcollection! This is about half, the rest are scattered about the house, or in boxes: sorry about the quality of the photo - I'm a "point and hope" photographer. There's about another metre to the right of the photo as well, but I can't get far enough back to get it in.Sorry about the ones flat on top of the others, Hoops - I always thought that gap was to get more books on the shelf! And yes, those are two B.Herbert/Anderson Dune prequels top right - you can pick them out because the spines are only cracked to the first 50 pages! I ought to offer this up as a competition - "How many authors/titles can you name in this puzzle picture?" ![]()

Re: Show us you fantasy/ficiton-bookcollection! Wow, that is quite a collection! My shelf is tiny compared to that (it's going to be such an anti-climax when I finally post my home shelf). Ah, I quite distinctly see the Terry Pratchett section! And don't worry, that's a very tidy bookshelf, I can those few that are lying down...so you'll be pleased to know I won't be breaking into your house anytime soon. ![]()

Re: Show us you fantasy/ficiton-bookcollection! It's not that tidy as a rule, though, Hoops - I rejigged the whole lot just before Christmas after I added the new shelf at top left (at right angles.) There's about 2000 SF/F books altogether in the house, but this is the main lot. Sadly, though I have a confession to make - they're also in alphabetic order by author surname.....

Re: Show us you fantasy/ficiton-bookcollection! Ah, you don't need to be embarassed by that! It makes finding certain books much more easy. If I had as many books as you, I'd probably do the same. *Goes into a wistul daydream* Ooh, the endless organising...I love tidying my books. As well as reading them, of course ![]()

Re: Show us you fantasy/ficiton-bookcollection! So today was the big bookcase buying day. After years of begging for a new bookshelf, I finally just thought, hell, I'm going to buy one anyway, it's my room and my money! And as a trip to Ikea was the event of the day today, I decided to purchase one while there! It's much taller than my old one, but a little thinner, so although I'm managed to squeeze a few more books onto it, if I buy even a couple more books (which is inevitable!) I'm going to have a difficult job fitting them on. Looks like I'll be buying another bookshelf soon, then! Not that I mind, the one I bought today cost a mere £11.99 (ah, the joys of Ikea...) Once I'd taken my books of the shelves, I realised that I didn't have as many as I first thought. Yes, I have a few at university, but only an extra thirty or so. Still, I'll soon remedy that, no problem... So, I've had a fun afternoon, assembling flat pack furniture. I actually like doing this, especially the sense of accomplishment that comes at the end, as if you've created the thing from scratch, starting with felling a tree! Also, my family have officially declared me mad (it was a close thing before, but now they've definitely decided there's no hope for me) because all today I've been hopping around like a lunatic, excited at the prospect of buying a new bookshelf, and then, joy of joys, spending the afternoon constructing said item and then arranging all my beloved books! When I was trying to squeeze all my books onto it, my mum kept quipping, "Well, you know what you need to do, don't you? Stop buying books!" Ah, I'm so misunderstood ![]() Phew, this has got to be one of the longest posts I've made! So I'll shut up now and just post the damned pictures of my book collection! Not all are sci-fi or fantasy, because I have quite eclectic tastes. Anyway: Photo one: My book collection when taken off my old bookshelf, lying on my bed, waiting for the big move! Photo two: The top two shelves. Shelf one has my two different versions of Lord of the Rings (Illustrated hardback and paperback), Douglas Adams books and my Terry Pratchett collection. Shelf two has my Dark Tower series, Mark Robson's Darkweaver series, and possibly my favourite book ever, Flowers for Algernon. Photo three: Shelf three: Ah, my Stephen King collection. Well, I did say I was a fan! Yup, I have almost all of his books, as you can see Shelf four: My "old" books. As in classics. I have a few Greek stories, like Journey of Argo, The Iliad, etc, a couple of Shakespeare plays, some Hardy novels, James Joyce, War and Peace is there too, and a few P.G Wodehouse books, his Imperial Blandings ones. Photo four: My fourth shelf again, and my fifth, which has the young adult books that I have: Eragon, Eldest, Harry Potter (regh), His Dark Materials, Artemis Fowl, etc. The ones that I read and collected a few years ago (but still enjoy). Oh...yeah...and, ahem, Dan Brown. ![]() I also have many other books under my bed, but they are mainly my 'younger' books, you know, the ones you read when younger like Goosebumps and Animorphs! So, there we go...My book collection. And my sexy new bookcase. Woot!

Tell you what, though - if you plan to get all the Discworld books, maps, guides, companions, non-fiction, etc, you're going to need another bookcase that size just for pTerry! ![]() And is that a lava-lamp I can see at the side? Woot!! | |

Re: Show us you fantasy/ficiton-bookcollection! Ah, indeed...and especially as it was put together with my own two (bleeding) hands. (Had some trouble with a weak allen key; nearly lost both of my thumbs. But that doesn't stop me, I was determined to put it together!)Speaking of Discworld. I was just standing in front of my bookcase, smiling at it fondly, pushing the books to keep them all neatly lined up...then gasped and clutched my head in shock...the Discworld novels were out of order! Needless to say this was very quickly rectified! And yes, that is a lava lamp! ![]()

Re: Show us you fantasy/ficiton-bookcollection! Oh, I was tempted to do that...but the thing is, I like them to be in size order. Hardbacks at one end, then the paperbacks after that. If I go by author order, it'll look very unsymmetrical! Also, as I have eclectic tastes, it's easier (at the moment) to be organised in genre...so Sci-fi/fantasty at the top (of course!), then my Stephen King collection, then my classics, then my young adult books. Once my collection grows, then I will definitely be arranging in alphabetical order!

| Re: Show us you fantasy/ficiton-bookcollection! If you want any older stuff, I can always donate some to a good cause - normally they go to charity shops, but I'd rather they went to a guaranteed good home, where I know they'll be looked after. PM me if you're interested........ Quote:
