Myself I always try to stock up for that time when I can't afford to buy more. It's gradually increased over the years so now I have a 10 year supply. If I end up retiring some day on a fixed income, I'm good for quite a while.

Re: Show us you fantasy/ficiton-bookcollection!

I very rarely buy books because of nice covers... normally I read the blurb on the back, or if I see something by an author I really like, I get it anyway. Every now and then I look on here and get something people have recommended. I'm actually having to physically restrain myself from buying books now... it gets me some weird looks walking down the street...

There's a bit of a problem in photographing the books because of not being able to get a proper distance from the bookshelves to take the pictures.

I'd have to go outside and take a photo through the window! So I've attached the best I can do, concentrating on cases and shelves with a bit of sci-fi and fantasy content.

The titles haven't come out very clearly.

Listing them all would be so dull. Some of the stuff:

Kelpie's book is top top left. There are some of the Abhorsen series in the full bookcase picture, along with some of the Discworld novels, the Borrowers novels, and Tom Holt.

The tiny picture has various Harry Potters, Douglas Adamses, Stephen King and Cloud Atlas in it.

Re: Show us you fantasy/ficiton-bookcollection!

My hardcovers go on shelves (in every room of my house). The mass market paperbacks go into Rubbermaid boxes. These boxes hold about 40 books and I have about 25 to 30 boxes filled. I freely admit it, I'm a bookaholic, but then I've been collecting for about 40 years.

Re: Show us you fantasy/ficiton-bookcollection!

My entire collection of printed-word books is about a dozen. I have the Harry Potters which I kept because one is autographed, and a dog-eared copy of The Two Towers, a few special books from my chidhood, and probably five or six non-fiction titles. I'm what's called a Book-Giver-Awayer. Once I'm done reading a book, I pass it on to another eager reader, with the understanding that they will pass it along in turn. Many I leave on the bus. If there is a periodic accumulation of books, as sometimes happens, it's because I'm behind in my reading. The transience of books is part of their nature.

I shudder to think of the consequences if I had kept every book of my acquaintance.

Looking at the photographs of peoples books collections, im shocked at how neat you've got them on the bookshelf! My books are on top of each other and then I have books behind books... its a bit of a nightmare! and like kyetu I have a fair few which have to be kept in boxes outside my room. The dream is to one day have such a big house that I can have a room totally devoted to books and CD's

Re: Show us you fantasy/ficiton-bookcollection!

I am very, very envious. I ahve one small bookshelf, which surficed while the only books I had to put on it were my Terry Pratchett books, plus some old books from my younger days. I used to have them evenly spaced out on the shleves with some ornaments and framed postcards. Now, the old books are piled on top of a box which contains old university course binders and text books. My shelf is now briming with Pratchett books, Tolkein, Joanne Harris, writing books, HHGG and a couple of Potters and Doctor Whos (amongst others.) My Trudi Canavan books are (most unfortunatly) squessed(sp) into one wardrobe, while three of my Who books are in another. My Dan Brown and Suzanne Clarke books (amongst others) are floating around on top of piles of magazines and squashed into magazine racks...

The really annoying thing is that I brought a desk last year, complete with shelving unit. I've put the drawers together, but no buggar will help me assemble the desk and shelves!! (It takes two people to life the desk and hold the appropriate parts in place while they are glued ) I long to have more shelves ~ and drawers where I can hide all my bills!

If no-one has said it before, Tier, I'll say it now.

You're nicely stacked.

cant photo the collection, as its in no particular order so not all the sci-fi/fantasy is together. And i'm not sorting through it.

how is it that they really are in no particular order, but i couild tell you which pile/box any given book is in? the mirile of book collections....

Re: Show us you fantasy/ficiton-bookcollection!

I don't know where any of them are. I have to go along the shelves to find anything I need, then I stop and see some other book and have to go off and read that first. It's a horror.
