Will be putting down a deposit Saturday and then it looks like it'll be ~ 2 months before he can do them but I will finally have my Library, yay! Nothing too extensive, about 5-6m in shelves (in an L shape with corner computer table) is the plan so hopefully I'll be back soon with pictures .
I don't think you're in Melbourne are you? It's just that office works were selling these solidly constructed bookshelves 800 by 2.02M with adjustable shelves and double width shelving for $100 off the normal price. That's what I got. OK, they're chipboard with cherywood laminate but they look really good. I got seven bookcases = 42 shelves = 2,500 book capacity at a total cost of $900. I can promise you that's a very good deal. The next cheapest option was stained pine at $1,600 and then hardwoods are into the 2 -3,000+ range.

Good luck anyway...

Nope slightly more West then that but thanks for the tip, I've looked into Office Works before and they didnt have anything but I might pop in again. This will only be stained pine and it's still going to be a good few thousand, it's incorporating the computer table (with shelves above) and cupboards all along the bottom that's adding to the price but we've looked at everything from Ikea to cheap importers right through to full custom made and so far this seems the best chance of getting what we want at a price I'm willing to pay, plus it's a small local business which is always nice.

Re: Show us you fantasy/ficiton-bookcollection!

My new bookcase is still laying in the middle of my lounge room waiting to be put together! I just don't have the strength in my hands to screw it together

Only a couple of the shelves have been photographed so far and they aren't very good ones at that!

I'll just put in a link here. One to take up less space and the other because for some reason my second pic won't upload!!

Here you can mostly see 4 of the 5 shelves that make up the main library - the 5th shlf is nonfiction and classics.

That's a nice setup Bookstop, mine is along similar lines only scarily larger...

@Rosemary: Don't worry about the shelves, when I visit I can put that up for you. I just finished putting together seven 2 metere shelves so plenty of practice. That little croc looks strangely familiar, OH Rane yoohoo?.....

Re: Show us you fantasy/ficiton-bookcollection!

This is just one of my bookshelves. I have another about the same size, and you are only seeing the books in the front. I have one or two rows behind the front rows.

Oh, and I have some in the closet you see on the left. I plan on getting rid of those one of these days. I only keep the ones I like.

Martin, Erikson, Williams, Abercrombie, Stephenson, Hamilton...great stuff. Beautiful shelves chopper, I spot Gary Gygax, you play D&D? Sad to see him go...

Cheers, DeepThought

Your "lawyer cases" are actually called "barristers book cases". Where on earth did you land 5 barrister's book cases?!? They are not the easiest things to come by, as book collectors have been snapping them up for years (the glass doors keeps the dust off the books, save a bit on UV damage, plus they look great).

I'd love to get a few of those beauties, as I happen to be a barrister (& solicitor: in Canada, we are both), and I have found only one, and my parents won't let me have it.

BTW, very nice collection!

Re: Show us you fantasy/ficiton-bookcollection!

Well, unfortunately we don't have a lot of extra space in our house, so I only have one bookshelf at the moment. And the books on it change quite regularly as I get new books and take old books to the used bookshop. But here is what's on there right now.
