Who knows what Benedict was doing when Dworkin drew his trump? Standing for 5 hours while being sketched - you'd be frowning too
But he is dour and seldom smiles. I've always pictured him as stern-looking, even severe, as opposed to detached. And while he does care about Amber and the family (if they deserve it), he's not exactly your jolly uncle.
