The World Of Harry Potter Vs. The Magical Land Of Narnia.

Well for me this is a no brainer... The Chronicles of Narnia. I think the facts in the book point to a possibility of it being real. But in Harry Potter...Id love to but I cannot see it being real. What do you think? I Still think Hp Rocks! Dont get me wrong.

I love both of them. I don't know that I would pit them against each other any more than i would LOTR and Narnia.

You cant put Narnia against Harry Potter, because both a totally different. Its like saying which is better out of umm "Blade" and "Queen of the damned",
Both involve vampires in the modern world, but have two different story lines. Its the same with Narnia and Potter, to different story lines, two different times, and two different morals.
But I like Narnia alot more than Potter. Cause the better author makes you feel bout of the world he has created, makes you believe you can be called into it. Rowling is a good author, but she doesnt create a sense of being, which causes you to believe you in the world created. Even though its created in our time era. Just not believeable

I have to disagree with you Sinak-Rune, I totally believe Rowling's world and would love for it to be real. The thought of walking through a wardrobe into another world just isn't as believeable as boarding a train at Kings Cross Station and going to magic school!

This might be because I have little to no imagination, but I can totally believe in Hogwarts and a Ministry for Magic etc, probably because it's what I've wished for since I was little, a magic school, broomsticks that actually fly, witches and wizards etc etc.

Still, I think Lissa and Sinak are right, you cannot pitt Potter against Narnia, they are two completely different stories with completely different settings, the only things they have in common is a magical world hidden from ours and children as the main characters, other than that, completely different.

I love both sets of books and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe was among the first books I read, and I've re-read it I don't know how many times.

I can honestly say I don't prefer one set over the other, they both hold equal space in my heart! However, I do relate to the magical world Rowling created more than the world Lewis created!

I prefer Harry Potter to Narnia, however I did enjoy the narnia books and movie (don't judge me).

I love the idea of Harry's world, the fact that he has the whole other life and it goes on around him even when he is back with us muggles.

This sounds silly but I feel more for Harry Potter than I do about Peter, Edmund, Lucy, Susan, maybe its because Harry doesn't have any parents and plus he really did not get the pick of the draw when it comes to his relations.

Narnia is a colourful world, but it is just not that real to me, for one thing, I don't go into many wardrobes (well just for clothes really and I would never wear fur)

I agree with everyone here, you can't put them against each other, they are both great in their own way.

Sinak-Rune-I liked Blade, Queen of the Dammed just worried me.

Lissa-I love LOTR, just for the Aragorn factor!

I think you can EASILY compare the two worlds, as evidenced by the replies here. Then again, I can compare summer holidays to alligators.

For my money, it's Harry Potter's world. I find it more convincingly drawn, and the appeal of that world pervades the books. All the time I'm reading, I want to go there, and it makes the story all the more compelling.

I "liked" Narnia well enough, escpecially The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, but there's this thing… It's like, when you go see a movie with Tom Cruise in it, no matter what his character is doing, on one level, you're always thinking, 'It's Tom Cruise.' With the Narnia stories, whenever Aslan is in there, I'm always thinking, 'It's Jesus.' Yeah, he looks convincing with his golden mane and everything, but it's still always just Jesus. I find that alienating,

I think it is easy to compare the believability of the worlds of Narnia and Potter, up to the point where Harry walks through the barrior to platform 9 and 3 quarters and Edmund walks through the wardrobe into Narnia. Maybe it is because the wizard, Harry always lives in the 'real' world whereas Lucy et al spends time in an actual 'magical' world. Harry's worlds, even Hogwarts, is based in everyone elses real world. If you are talking about the set-up of the whole situations being more realistic, then I would think it is fair to compare the two. Which would I believe to being more realistic ...well I have five minutes left on the computer and no time left to explain. That's a cop out? Well, Potter is still easier for me to believe, but maybe that is just because the setup of the Pevensy kids is so old fashioned now. Despite e.g having to confront the most powerful wizard,Voldemort ~ Harry's situation is more comparable to peopples lives today. Even if it is as allegory (e.g Harry's tie to Voldy [scar] and having to effectively fight himself [perhaps]) I'll ahve to come back to this I think.

Have to i have read both sets of books both are ok but narnia books have a lot more depth for me and a lot more variety between books. just find harry potter books leave me feeling that although there ok they could have been beter

I suppose whether Potter 'rings bells' depends on what you look for in a novel ... I think that lots of people enjoy the POtter books because they enjoy re-living their childhood through HArry and his friends; for all the mistakes we made as teenagers, Harry is a better person ... and the stories engage our imagination as we identify with HArry, saying to ourselves 'I coulda done that, that's the sort of thing my mate would have said, I wish I coulda done that to the bullies at my school...'

NArnia on the other hand, offers something else to ring soemones bells in th eimagination sector.

I think this all came about because the Narnia chronicles have finally been deposed by the Potter Phenomenon. Lewis wrote a Christian allegory which also happened to be a cracking story, but when you think that all seven chronicles would fit into The Goblet of Fire with room to Spare, WELL.
Don't compare them, enjoy both.

I am an adult. I really enjoyed the Harry Potter series, but I really didn't enjoy the Narnia books-at all. I didn't make a connection with any of the characters, like "weaveworld" meantioned above. Hence, Narnia bored me and reading the books felt like a chore, so I confess that I stopped after four. I would, however, like to read the Narnia books with an allegorical companion...explaining all the details that went over my head. Is this a worthwhile endeavour?

Thank you - I am also not a big fan of Narnia. I read the first book, and it was fine. I didn't once lose myself in the story and imagine it as real, and I find it hard to believe sooo many people find it brilliant.

Harry Potter already had a foot in the door of reality, and I found myself falling headfirst into his world. The descriptions are painted with clarity, and the dialog solid and fun.

Both worlds do deserve credit as being interesting, but for me it's Potter all the way.
