My good lady wife was out in Nuneaton today and rang me from Waterstones there to read me a sign on one of the young adult bookshelves. It read:

"If you like books by Mark Robson, then you might like Garth Nix."

For some reason we both found this hilariously funny!

Not that I'm aware of, O6W. Sorry if this thread comes across as terribly self-centred, but the irony did strike me as funny. Someone in Waterstones is clearly using reverse sales psychology to sell more copies of Imperial Spy, for which I hope God showers them with a thousand blessings. I doubt that Mr Nix will mind the slight - he's selling plenty of books not to worry about such trivialities.

And, Kelpie, now wouldn't that be something? No, I'm not even going to go there.

No problem. Apologies for being a "lurker" on this site for the last few weeks, but I've been finishing off the dissertation for my Masters degree. Thankfully it's now printed, bound, and ready to be delivered to the OU in Milton Keynes tomorrow morning - which unfortunately means I won't be able to catch up with you in Ottakars in MK this Thursday (is this a World Book Day event you're doing?).

Anyway, hope this, and the other signings, go well!

By the way, I'm really enjoying reading Imperial Spy. As others have said, it seems to mark a really impressive step change in your writing, to a whole new level.

You misunderstood, I was asking because you sound like you're not aware you HAVE arrived -- which you have already. I saw a fansite on google the other day. Two of my friends have Imperial Spy. And this post gave me the impression that you're a struggling writer.

I'm still trying to get a copy myself, my friends are enjoying it. Quite the contrary, that post sounded incredibly modest.

I haven't seen that ... excuse me, but I'm off to try googling that. Did you have an address?

Glad to hear that your friends are enjoying Imperial Spy. It's hard to take in that people think I've arrived as an author. I've not scratched the surface of my prospective audience yet, so I feel like a baby. Perception is a strange thing. I suppose it's a bit like reading a good story - point of view is everything.
