Re: Brienna's "Last" word

I think Briennes last word is "Rosebud"....but Ive been watching the classic movie channel again....

Maybe its me (and mostly it is) but I dont think Jaime can resist Cersei most times...maybe when his questionable honor is at stake but not others...I dont see him turning on Cersei, no matter how much hed like to....Cmon he saved Tyrion when he was convicted of regicide....(yeah yeah he owed him....whatever)....I think he would be disposed towards doing the same for Cersei....once again, just my opinion....

Re: Brienna's "Last" word

We disagree here Aegon on how 'unconditional' Jaime's love for Cersai actually is.

My perception of Jaime's view of his relationship with Cersai has always been that he sees it as an essentially monagamus partnership and she is his soulmate therefore viewing it the same way. Indeed she's the only woman he has ever slept with and for most of the series as far as he believes he is the only man she has willingly slept with. Both the twins were politically expedient enough to view Robert Baratheon as a necessary evil to allow their love to continue and besides his various other 'interests' gave them advantages they wouldn't have with a more commited husband.

Now with recent developments Jaime has become increasingly convinced (rightly so) that the love of his life, Cersai has willingly shared herself with more than one other man on a regular basis.

As far as I am concerned its not a case of Jaime turning on Cersai but more one that Cersai has already turned on Jaime as far as he's concerned. In fact I see his disillusioned passion for her being what drives his revenge, rather than save Cersai. Jaime as we know from his memories of King Aerys seldom pulls his punches against those who abuse his loyalty...

Re: Brienna's "Last" word

Tom, I have a lot of responses....and each of em boil down to....okay.

I think the whole Jaime-Cersei thing is more complicated on his end. I see him doing a "I wish I could quit you" sort of thing....Brokeback Lannisters anyone?

Shes about as deep as a belch I had earlier though...so Jaimes about the only discussion we can have...

Paaaaahahahahahahaha! Too darn funny.

Okay- seriously.

Jaime's just now realizing what a fool he's been from the start. I don't know if, at this point in the story, he has it in him to kill Cersei, but I do think he has it in him to let her die.

Re: Brienna's "Last" word

I think it maybe something along the lines of "trial". From what I remember, everyone has the right to claim their innocence by battle. Beric gave the Hound the chance to prove his innocence.

Wow!

kimb, that's the best guess I've read here. I like it a lot. If Thoros, Harwin, Lem, Anguy, and those others have a shred of decency left, they'll agree with Brienne on this... not that it will matter to Stoneheart. This could be the event to shock the King's Men out of their apathy towards Stoneheart's leadership.

Re: Brienna's "Last" word

I don't know what the big mystery is? It says right there on page 641 that she screamed "a word".

Maybe the the new pov is going to be UnBrienna. How creepy would that be?

Re: Brienna's "Last" word

This is probably a long shot but....
Gendry is with the outlaws, correct? Let's say that Brienne is given a trial. She seems to be in pretty bad shape so someone will probably have to fight for her. I always thought that Oathkeeper will turn out to be the Lightbringer. Maybe Gendry, with king's blood, will make something happen if he stands up for her...
I just know Gendry is here for some purpose...

Re: Brienna's "Last" word

Agree, a long shot as Oathkeeper is not Lightbringer but rather Ice and Gendry is no Dany.

Re: Brienna's "Last" word

she might have cried "pod!" just out of grief. and therefore still died. which would be really sad considering how close she was to solving where sansa was hidden but then again life is unfair.

Pretty anti-climactic if you ask me...No, GRRM has something special in store for Brienne. Maybe, now that's missing her cheek, she'll take a liking to noseless dwarves.

We can only hope this is the case. The sooner GM stops writing about her the better the series will end up. I'd rather have Pod's pov than hers. GM had his fun, the experiment failed, now let her die at the end of a rope.

And PLEASE, GM, don't raise her back from the dead.

Of course this is only my opinion, but to me Brieanne is the proof that no matter how brilliant and clever a writer is, no one is perfect.

I was once disliked the Brieanne chapters but reading it a second time I rather enjoyed them. I may have rose coloured glasses on.

Blasphemy! But seriously, I enjoyed the Brienne chapters as a glimpse of the Westerosi ideal. I think it's ironic how all of the expected paragons of chivalry and virtue have serious flaws(Loras, Renly-scheming morons, Robert-drunken ass, Kingsguard-corrupt and stupid) and this ugly tomboy from Backwaterville with no social graces or political inclinations, is the most perfect example of a knight in shining armor in the entire book.
