I don't see the basis for this at all. The US has conducted numerous operations like this over the years, striking the military infrastructure and then just letting the entire system grind to a halt on its own. In fact, if anyone was going to do this to put back Iran's nuclear ambitions, I would without a doubt say the US military was the best for the job.

Any reprisals from Iranian side barring weapons of mass destruction wouldn't have any huge effect.

I'm glad that there is the possibility of upsetting the Iranian regime. It is an oppressive dictatorship that means no good, least of all towards its own persecuted citizens. No doubt it is also vital in their plan to stabilise Iraq; removing Iran from the picture would do wonders.
