| Re: New route A Doctor Who Dalek???
I can't really pin my tail to any of the options given because I would like the programme makers to get the mythology right first.
Time Lords are alien, so we don't really know what they're capable of or subject to. But we have been told they can only regenerate twelve times (Is that what RTD is banking on? Race through the last few so no one can follow him?). I think we're including McGann as one of the twelve.
If the series is to survive beyond that, the number will have to refer to a certain type of regeneration and I would suggest the male humanoid form. This allows writers to devise story lines for a subsequent regeneration quota of twelve humanoid females.
(I'm not mad, I tell you!)
So far, we've seen the Doctor becoming progressively younger with each regeneration (if you suspend your disbelief just a touch, for the moment). If the twelve females grow older with each change, then the twelfth will be the female equivalent of Mr Hartnell, while the first will have been some young slip of a thing. Personally, I'm not too keen on this. I'd like the first female doctor to be a grandmother, one who grows younger over time and ends up as ... Susan, the Doctor's "grand-daughter"!!
This way, we get to see the change-over aspect of the role (from Susan to infant-grandfather Hartnell) and the two distinct physical entities of the same person interacting. Plus, we get to see what happened to Susan after she left the Tardis. Did she cease to be a Time Lord? Did she become human? Perhaps I haven't thought about this enough.
Then the next serieseses can be male again and cast according to the original sequence, essentially filling in the Hartnell, Troughton etc stories that weren't told first time around.
Continuity problems? Hell, it'll be eighty years from now, nobody's going to remember what happened in series one by that time.
Plus, by then perhaps Time Travel will be a proven reality and we can actually ask Hartnell to reprise the role!
I'm Kent Brockman and this has been - My Two Cents. Thank you.
