| Something Different I've been doing a bit of delving and, just in case anybody else is interested, thought I'd pass on my findings. The British Film Institiute: http://www.bfi.org.uk An interesting site if you are looking for some hard-to-find quality from yesteryear. They are busy restoring and releasing old stuff (not just from the UK). I've picked up a couple on DVD - The Stone Tape (written by Nigel Kneale - creator of the Quatermass stories). An interesting and intelligent ghost story which is only let down by the naff effects of the time. If watched whilst bearing in mind the technological limitations of the early 70s - most enjoyable. Whistle and I'll Come: Michael Hordern stars in this one (the voice of Paddington Bear). Another intelligent ghost story which touches on the dangers of intellectual snobbery but at £14.99 for a 42 minute piece with limited extras, a bit steep in the price department. There are quite a few others in the pipeline for release (including stuff by Akira Kurosawa - creator of The Seven Samurai). A worthwhile website if you have an interest in older films. |
