Re: Pratchett film

Just found this on the August Discworld newsletter :-

-----------------------
It is looking more and more likely that a Good Omens movie will go ahead this winter. In recent interviews Terry Gilliam has said that he is working with Stephen Evans and the project will be going ahead.

The timing prevents Gilliam's preferred stars: Robin Williams, Johnny Depp and Jonathan Pryce from being available due to other work commitments.

Re: Pratchett film

but will they be able to stop it being pure farce? i love pratchett, but it's hardly subtle humor. Wee free men, good omens or hogfather, while i loved all three, could end up looking like a three stoges film with the less obvious getting lost in translation.
(also i don't think granny weatherwax will enjoy having only a cameo role in the first pratchett film)

what would be wrong with farce? when done right farcial films can be very funny..

Re: Pratchett film

i have no problem with farce, in its own place, although it can turn to toilet humour very quickly, but i'd prefer something better for pratchett. a more subtle humor from the ignorance and sillyness for the characters and situations rather than a constant stream of one-liners and pies in the face.

Re: Pratchett film

I don't think Prattchetts books would make very good films... Still, I will go and see them when they are out. I won't make any judgements before I see them.

My eyes wander towrds another cult British Sci/Fi institution and the dogs breakfast of a film that was made, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, and think: True they would be good films. But they are films that would be better left unmade than trashed by Hollywood.

Re: Pratchett film

I thought I'd read somewhere (a long time ago) that Terry Pratchett refused all film offers, preferring to let people use their imaginations as to the appearance of characters and locations in the Discworld.
Has he changed his mind?

ps - this is my first post. Hello!

Hi Harpo & welcome to the forums.

Maybe you're right about a live action film but he's done 2 or 3 animated ones and doesn't seem to bothered about that.
