Which book should I buy?

These books are available in the local book shop:
Masquerade
Soul Music
The Fifth Elephant
Monstrous Regiment

I have enough money to buy only one of them. Which should I choose?
And don't tell me it all depends, because I absolutely love all Pratchett's books I have read before.

Well, it all depends... It truly does. Soul Music is a Death book, Masqyerade a witch book, The Fifth Elephant a Watch book, and Monstrous Regiment a stand alone. So, it depends what you've read, and what you liked. Myself, I'd go The Fifth Elephant, closely followed by Soul Music.

Then probably Soul Music, because Death is so cool!! But the Watch is cool, as well.. Hmmm..

Yeah, it's a close-run race between those two. I don't think I've ever even read a Witch book. Rincewind is good, and some of the stand-alones are classic, but you can't beat Vimes and Death.

Well, actually I solved the problem of choice quite easily - I took some money from the 'do-not-touch-except-in-case-of-extreme-emergency-or-a-matter-of-life-and-death' box and bought both Soul Music and The Fifth Elephant.

Extreme emergency, definitely, though perhaps "life and death" is a slight exageration; there again, perhaps not.
I hope you enjoy them more than anything else you might have done with the money.

Actually I did enjoy the books- sitting in my room reading them all night and giggling which made my parents question my sanity - they never understood what's so funny about Pratchett.

No one ever questions my sanity, though I suspect that's because first they'd have to catch it and tie it to a chair, with bright lights and threat of torture.
Mind you, I ran out of parents before discovering Pratchett - still, I had Eric Frank Russell, and they never found that particularly funny, either.
Glad you enjoyed them - so, needless to say, did I. Immensely.

NOT Monstrous Regiment. I'd go for the Fifth Elephant with the Watch in it.

Not find Russell funny??? (Then again, parents are notoriously lacking in a sense of humor, generally speaking....)

Guards, Guards is a good one to start with or any of the city watch books but my favourite is The truth. Every time i read that book it makes me laugh out loud.
