I agree that the companion has gone from being saved time and time again by the doctor, to being his concence.

So what next, here's where I get controversial, let us hve a non human companion.

This would give us a chance to explore different view points, get to grips with some cultural issues lightly touched on by Dr Who at present. This would give the script writers something to get there teeth into too!
