Question Re: Character Naming in Fantasy stories

In my novel, 'The Web of Life', my main character's name is Áréwn'tháwr, meaning hope-unconquered. What do you think?

I think it's a bit too much. And I can't pronounce it.

I agree with Marky, I think it's a little over the top. I look at it an immediately think Tolkien got into the methamphetamines.

Re: Character Naming in Fantasy stories

Simple tips:
- Anagram various words, phrases, whatever
- Substitute all vowels for "y"
- Pick random syllables and put them together (My best example is Ta-Lu Kaa, but please don't use that one!)

Re: Character Naming in Fantasy stories

It's really down to what fits into your storyline and your world, really. Just try to avoid the "nothing but consonants and apostrophes" trap. Lots of the advice in here sounds good.
