I don't know the whole story about that incident. One of the news group flamers had dropped a flame post like the one that brought me here, and when I responded to it one of the moderators apparently connived with the news group flamer to approve vaguely worded but clearly discrediting posts about me. When an undisclosed number of people other than me complained, and when I openly challenged what the moderator was doing, David banned me and all discussion of me.

To date, he's only allowed one MM-flame post get by since then that I am aware of.

There aren't many anti-MM people from the news groups, but 3-5 of them have apparently looked for places where they can bait and flame me, some more than others.

As far as my interest in Tolkien topics go, the problem for me is that I have written so many essays at Suite101 and a few other places that it's hard to say anything new. And when Suite101 stopped paying the writers, there no other contracts available for Tolkien columnists.

That said, I've probably made more money writing about Tolkien than most people, so I've got no reason to complain. It was a good run and I enjoyed researching many of the essays.

There may be a few more out there. I occasionally post a new essay to MERP.COM.
