orphans

ok i am defining as an orphan as anyone who lost at least one parent. why is it that STNG seemed to have everyone as an orphan.

Picard both parents dead
Riker mother dead
deana troi father dead
wesley father dead
dr crusher parents dead
data abandoned(ok his a droid but still)
Worf both parents dead
Yar both parents dead
geordi his mother's ship dissappears, she is presumed dead.

Re: orphans

Don't think Picard counts.. he's too old :P Everyone's parents have to die sometime. Also Worf has his adoptive parents, which I don't recall being dead. Heh.. Worf also has his son (his name escapes me at the moment ><) whose mother died :P Dead parents or loved ones gives Star Trek a chance to bring them back or bring back the drama along with it... lol

Re: orphans

Perhaps their loss provides the characters with the drive to seek out a replacement family group which they find (and join as productive members) in the Enterprise?

Yeah, she was great. I liked how they carried her on to DS9.

And Worf's son is Alexander.
