I've re-read from chapter 31 onwards, again, just to make sure I didn't miss anything in the heat of the first (accelerating) read. I don't think I did, but it's great story-telling. Agree with the war metaphor above, which is entirely what it was: small renegade groups fighting against on overwhelming dark force, with distinct, minor skirmishes, culminating in the massive showdown.
