| Re: what are good books to read ok
the reason i thought i wanted to write sf even though i have barely read sf is because i loved my book and the story and i figured i liked sf...
but after reading 9 chapters of the star wras book i see its very different from my book! very!
its very anal about a lot of things i dont even mention in my book.
and the book has a lot of military kind of talk that my book will never have "tie fighters on the ready!!"...
but then again thats why its called star wars
my book is a fantasy. plain and simple
a fantasy that takes place in a galaxy with many planets inhabited by many magical creatures and other stuff
and yes -there is magic
the best book i can think of right now that my book can be compared to is the book Artemis fowel
its a fanatsy where magical creatures live underground -but, like my book, they use computers and technology just as much as magic and it makes it "sciency" in a way.
the magic in my book can be compared to the force -at first glance. i hope that at the end of my book i have established that it is quit different
but than again any magic called by the mind can "look" like the force
and any magic by wand can "look" like im copying harry potter -so its a lose lose situation
as you can see im a little low in confidence when it comes to writing my book and i feel i have to measure up to other books of my genre
i thought it was sf -so i felt i had to use the same terminology as other sf's
like using the word bridge to explain that area of a ship, intead of making up my own words
but im starting to become more confident and hopefully will realize im free to do whatever i want in my book
and as for grammar -im writing fast on a keyboard to a forum. i usually write my book in a notebook so i dont look for grammar that much whenever im writing on a computer unless its a report
at the end ill draft it onto a computer where of course ill write properly
one last thing.. can someone just name me parts and there functions on a common starship found in many sf books?
bridge, command room, blah blah |
