| Re: Bored of battle scenes Two writers who are really, really good at balancing excellent battle scenes with development, romance, history and what not are Bernard Cornwell (The Sharpe books) and George MacDonald Frazier (the Flashman series)
The latter handles complex battles really well, often by setting it up so that Flashman is a messenger for a superior officer, thus enabling him to scamper about the field. (Including both riding with The Light Brigade and standing with The Thin Red Line) |
