Earth Star Voyager (1988)

In the late 80's or early 90's there was a movie that appeared on television, it wasn't a series.

Things I remember about it.

The people running the space ship were mostly kids to late teenagers.

Teenage cadet(or something) was talking to an old lady and she said "I'll be right as rain" in a little bit.

They were on some kind of space ship later, I remember the keyboards were huge with many keys.

Also, something about needing to attach a laser on the top to help them defend themselves from some threat.

I think it was also near the time Highwayman came out.

Got any ideas???

Sorry, I don't have any idea. This doesn't sound even vaguely familiar. To narrow it down, you should find out which Highwayman you mean (it came out at different times) and you'll have a better idea of what years to look into.

Do you remember any key words or anything about the title that may help?

I'm guessing the show came out between 1987-1989. Haven't got a clue what the name was. Just remember that the crew was real young.

It seems like it was a Saturday night special movie. That's why I thought maybe it was a Disney show. But I haven't found anything on it.

If I remember right something was wrong with the earth, raining all the time, maybe environmental damage.

The crew was sent off on a mission but it didn't have weapons systems. They had to cobble on up using a communications laser or some such thing.

The commander was a man maybe in early twenties, several crew, female science officier (19-20), the youngest was a wiz kid probably not more than 12-13.

Were all the crew members human? The description is tickling the back of my brain and I might might know the series.

Yes I believe they were. Thou I don't think that it was a series. I just keep remembering how big the keyboards were, like it had a couple hundred keys in a neat orderly pattern.

Could you be thinking of Disney's "Earth Star Voyager"

No I didnt know it off the top of myhead I did a bit of browsing and it was the most likely one I came up with heres the speel about it

can you remeber what nationality the movie was - its ringing a bell with me but the one I'm thinking off is Australian ( its also a TV series so its probally not it, but i though the question might help)
