Re: Trivia

What was the material out of which Gandalf's pipe was made?

(And remember that smoking is bad for you, never mind what Gandalf is doing )

Re: Trivia

The question was too simple. I guess. As stated in the first chapter of The Hobbit, it was a clay pipe, so it's your turn, sanityassassin.

Re: Trivia

Well, there are more than one...

The Far Mountains, Mountains of the Moon and The Tower Hills (and maybe even more, these are by heart).

Re: Trivia

it is not the tower hills and they maybe known by other names but it is the name of the mountains just beyond the tower hills according to the original maps

Re: Trivia

No, Ered Luin is correct -- it's Sindarin for Blue Mountains, which I assume is what you are looking for, sanityassassin. Also called Ered Lindon.

It's easy to get confused, because the one long mountain range was divided into two by a big upheaval in Silmarillion days, and the LOTR map that I'm looking at makes it appear, at first glance, to be two different names -- rather than a name and its translation (as with the rivers and other mountains).

Re: Trivia

Weird, the first mountains from the Shire are definately the Tower Hills from my recognition...

Edit: I looked it up, and all the mountains I named are sure as hell west from the sire. And I guess the ones I named are all west of the shire before the Blue Mountains.

Re: Trivia

But hills and mountains are, by definition, not the same thing, Marky -- not in the English language, whatever they are in the Elvish tongues, and the question was framed in English ...

And I can't find any mountains between the Shire and the Ered Luin on any map that I have, or any reference at all to the Far Mountains or the Mountains of the Moon. Could you tell me your source? Because it's clearly one that I, as referee, should try to get, if I am going to be able to rule in cases like this one.

Or possibly, lacking any serious lumps in his youth (cars with "NL" plates are renown it Switzerland for getting themselves and their owners inti inextricable situations on mountains. Mind you, red "B" plates aren't much better) he can't tell the difference?
