they wouldnt need to keep the three , the ruling ring trumps them all
And dont forget that Sauron was an inherently evil person , the ring couldnt make him more evil , instead it made him what he wanted , more powerful , but also weaker in that he became over confident
Gandalf would be an entirely different proposition. He wouldnt make the same mistakes that Sauron made
