| Re: Smeagol and Gollum Gollum is a representation of what Frodo would eventually become if he kept the ring. Whoever it was that said that Frodo would not become like Gollum (remember , in my opinion, is wrong - he would have become exactly like Gollum - in fact even more so , as he was a good , honest person and the ring corrupts absolutely - the nicer a person you are , the nastier you would eventually become - this is why it would have been catastrophic if Gandalf or Galadriel had accepted the Ring. They , unlike Sauron , would become absolutely invincible.
Gollum also represents pity - he's the only character you can feel any pity for
He is a weaker version of Sauron , both of them driven mad by the ring . However Gollum shows he is a stronger character than Dark Lord, retaining some remnants of his former self |
