Re: Where in the world are you from?

I grew up in a little town east of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania called Turtle Creek. Right now, I live a little further east than that in a town called Greensburg. I've spent periods of time living in Germany and Texas when I was in the army. I've also lived in Alabama, Missouri, Washington, and North Dakota....all failed attempts at moving away to "somewhere...anywhere else". But we have a saying around here "Back to the Burgh". So here I am.

Interesting to see U.K segregated from the rest of Europe - as far as I remember they are part of the European Communities (- according to their own wish :-)
Those islanders, those islanders :-)

So, I grew up in the Palouse region of eastern Washington. It's an agricultural area (mostly crops; wheat, lentils, garbanzo beans, more wheat) which is made up of miles of these giant "rolling" hills that are very popular for scenic calendar photos and the occasional TV ad where they want a sort of hyper-real landscape.

Now I live in Seattle which, for a city, is a swell place to live.

Actually, we tend to talk about, 'The Continent,' a place where they can't speak a civilized language and eat strange foods.

Seriously, while we have much in common with our European cousins (having fought countless wars with most of them) the language barrier and open water mean that we see ourselves as quite distinct. Most of us see the EU as a necessary evil, rather than a great dream of unity.

Re: Where in the world are you from?

Greetings! I Hail from Portugal. You know, that little piece of land just next to Spain, and with a good view to the Atlantic Ocean.

Not sure if i am the first Lusitanian member in the forum, but i would not be surprised if i was. I mean, i can't say the act of "reading" is anything for people to be proud over here, much less if we are talking specific reading as F&SF; but hey, that's Portugal for you... (But, if you ask any Portuguese about the name of all the football players in all the national clubs, i guess you would be surprised!)

So, yeah, i like my country; (as in: the land where it "sits" upon) not so much about what stands on top of it.

*Cheers*

I'm happy to see that there is nearly as many people from North America as the U.K. Regardless of nationality, I think you're all great folks!

We Europeans are holding fast in third, keeping the Australasian challenge at bay.

Well, alchemist, I just added one more to Australasia. Don't get too comfortable holding that bronze...

I'm from the beautiful Blue Mountains, just west of Sydney, Australia. Wouldn't wanna be anywhere else.

Re: Where in the world are you from?

Take a look at the continental US. Trace a finger as far East as you can go along the middle of the Atlantic seaboard. There's a strip of sand 3 miles off the mainland. That'd be where we have our bomb shelter.

Re: Where in the world are you from?

I picked North America. I was born in Louisiana and now live in Florida.

Do we have anyone from the Caribbean? I don't think that's covered in the poll--neither North America nor South America really covers it properly. My favorite region of the world actually.

Re: Where in the world are you from?

Hi, I am from Brazil. I was a regular visitor at the Michael Moorcock site/forum the last year, but problems with Brazilian spammers who were constantly trying to spam the forum made the admins to block IPs from Brazil. I have made so many friends over there! I just miss the web site. My favorite authors are Tolkien, Vance, Moorcock, Stephen King, Ursula LeGuin, Tim Powers, Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, P. K Dick and the list could grown from there.

Last books I read were "The Dark Tower" series volumes 1 and 2, which made me wondering why I didn't buy the whole thing at once...

best
