Re: Where in the world are you from? Pfoof! You think you need an explanation for grammatical mistakes around here? Wait 'til you see more posts. (The critiques, they'll catch 'em; mostly they don't matter; it's conversation.) Welcome to the forums (forae? foray? Blast you, cornelius!). This is definitely becoming a cosmopolitan place.....

Re: Where in the world are you from? Well, I wouldn't mind turning into Chris (at least, in some ways -- I could do without the diet, though). And, being the pedant I am -- Actually, while both "fora" and "forae" are still used quite a lot (especially the latter in the writing I've come across from up to at least the early twentieth century), according to the latest Latin dictionary I've seen, the proper term is "fori" (I suppose because, in some pronunciations, "forae" was often pronounced with the "short i" rather than as the dipthong sounding as "y" in English "try"....Maybe I should go back to school.....

Re: Where in the world are you from? I voted a long time ago but I now realize I didn't post. I'm from St. Louis, Missouri, U.S. Once considered "The Gateway to the West", it was the fourth largest U.S. city until the turn of the century. We have a steel arch over 600 feet tall built on the downtown riverfront. If you come into the city from the east, the Arch is the first thing you see as you cross the Mississippi River. Since it's the only neat thing about St. Louis, you can keep traveling right through the city toward someplace more interesting. Most of the city looks like a trash heap with roads and houses. The population has dwindled to nearly half of what it was at its' highest. And our crime rate usually ranks right up with the best (our per capita violent crime rate is usually #1.) Most people who move to the St. Louis area settle down in our massive, sterile, and overcrowded suburban area. On the plus side, a short drive over the river into Illinois will take you to the raunchiest nudie bars in the country. (A dancer that had worked in several cities including Las Vegas confirmed to me that east St. Louis 'gentleman's clubs' are by far the most 'liberal' she had ever witnessed.)

Re: Where in the world are you from? Mississippi, the Hospitality State. Land of memories and cotton. If you visit, be sure to go to Natchez, and miss Natchez-under-the-hill! That's about the only interesting place except for Oxford, home of William Faulkner.
