Ser Loras (spoiler)

Does anyone else not give a @#%$ whether he lives or dies?

He used to be one of my favorite characters. But lately he definitely takes after the male side of his family (i.e. dumb).

Re: Ser Loras (spoiler)

It depends on how GRRM plays it - if he lives, he'll almost certainly be hideous to look upon and it may even seriously impair his fighting ability.
Personally I hope he survives and, like Jamie before him, is profoundly altered by his humbling. He loved himself too much that lad - "too green, with the smell of summer on him" to paraphrase...

Who knows - he could become the new 'Hound'

Re: Ser Loras (spoiler)

I'm wondering if Loras is even the one who was maimed. It's pretty easy to horribly disfigure someone and then claim he is someone else. Knowing Cersei, she's got Loras in a dungeon somewhere, and another slender young man is suffering from horrible burns.

Re: Ser Loras (spoiler)

Cersei seemed pretty sure that Loras would do something stupid if he went to Dragonstone, so I don't think that she would bother to imprison him. If anyonw were to hide Loras away, I think it would be the Tyrells. He volunteered himself quite impulsively. The Tyrells are quite tricksy (see Joffrey), and they are really just Lannisters with flowers.

I don't like him either. Arogant little ****. Hopefully his wounding will leave him changed for the better, as i doubt very much he's dead.

Well, their ambition rivals the Lannsiters, but Olenna is not Tywin and none of the rest of them are as good as Tyrion. But with Tywin and Tyrion out of King's Landing, then the Queen of Thorns, Margaery, Mace, Garlen, and Loras are the match of Cersei, Jaime and Kevan.

Well, I thought the same thing, but with the Tyrells having a ulterior plan, spiriting Loras unharmed from Dragonstone, perhaps to lead Redwyne's fleet around to take on the Ironborn on the Mander, joining his brothers and then marching (again) on King's Landing. It all really comes down to working out what game the Tyrells are actually playing...

But either way, I don't think he'll die, and I think the reports of his maiming are greatly exagerrated.

Loras will hang around and fall in love with one of Robert's bastards...

Gendry or Edric.

Re: Ser Loras (spoiler)

...and wasnt it curious that Cersei had to listen to all the details of the battle twice; too bad she wasnt paying attention, the knight who was maimed was wielding morningstars, not the jeweled sword presented to Loras when he left Kings Landing...

"Dancing With Dragons" is going to show just how stupid, blind, arrogant and incompetant that Cersei was as a ruler. She alienated her entire power base and with Highgarden just a step away from the Iron throne...

Didn't this happen in AFFC?

Good piont about the morningstars, I need to reread... I'm as dumb as Cersei.

Re: Ser Loras (spoiler)

I missed that point as well, maybe becuase the 50 Cersei chapters were wearing thin on me... NEWMAN!! I hate missing critical pieces of the story.

Cersei has proven herself the posterchild for imbeciles in power.

And unless Loras is going to shave his head like he is from Thoros and start kickin arse and taking names...good riddance. When I am reading about him I get the image of Prince Charming from Shrek 2!

An interesting point but not one I feel proves the knight wasn't Loras. Throughout the books we've seen knights weild a variety of weapons - usually they seem to have a melee-style weapon - a morningstar, an axe, a mace - as well as their swords. I'm not entirely sure but I also seem to recall Loras fighting with a morningstar at the melee at Bitterbridge, against Brienne.

Rhigt.
I remeber Tommen saying that he was going to learn how to fight with lance swoard and MORNINGSTAR from Loras.
It would be interesting if it was Loras who was wounded sice the events surely would change him. And I really liked how Jaimie changed...

Re: Ser Loras (spoiler)

a knight does need be proficient in all forms of martial contest but a sword is a knight's privilege: outside of melee's have any of the king's guard gone into battle wielding other than a sword? certainly not proof it wasn't Lorus but more than a damnsite curious...

and just to play devils' advocate, who knows if Dragonstone was even taken? 1 little fib gets the fleet gets the entire fleet sent away...

In the Brienne / Loras fight in ACOK, Brienne, not Loras, fights with the morningstar (Loras fights with a longaxe).

Howevr, it's true that Tommen wants to learn with Loras "to fight with lance and sword and morningstar, the same way he does" in AFFC
