Re: Darren Shan I have seen some of his books in my local WH Smiths, and after flicking through the pages a little didn't find a hook. My impression was that it is just Harry Potter with a vampire. Is this a bad assumption? Are they worth giving a go?

Re: Darren Shan My son started reading Darren Shan last week. He seems to be enjoying the one book he has so far (he's ten). I promised to get the rest of the series for him. Maybe my daughter will start reading them too. She's six, so maybe a little young at the moment, although she does seem to share my love of horror and cannot get enough of those Goosebump episodes *grin*

Re: Darren Shan I picked up the first trilogy, and am trying to get through it at the moment. stinking dylan, i don't think the book is any more complicated, or worse than any goosebumps books - it may just be perfect for your daughter. I'm not sure what to make of it at the moment.. i guess i'll keep on going for a while and see.

Re: Darren Shan I've read the first 7 books in the Saga so far and they are an entertaining read, easy to read, 7 books in 7 nights (got to have something to do at work). just waiting for book 8 to come through the post and i will then finish the rest of them. I wasn't sure about them at first but they did grab me within the first few pages of Cirque du freak
