Three questions (spoilers)

Who IS cerci's champion that Qyburn says is ready and waiting? Any ideas other than Gregor?

What do you think the word is that Brienne says?

What is going to happen with Arya Involing her eyesight?

Oh, and something I should know, but what is the difference between others and weights?

Cerci's champion from what I got is Gregor, rather unGregor. The evidence is in the book. Cerci has armor made that is unbelievable heavy that no man could wear.

I have a feeling Brienne said Arya or Sword. I'm leaning toward Arya, since I think she could not kill Jaime. In the book. Jaime is on her mind and I think she might be in love with him.

Two things about Arya's blindness. 1. It is punishment for kill the singing black brother. The kindly-old man keeps haveing Arya house of Stark coming back. She does not completely shed what she was. 2. It is part of her training. In the book, Ayra does come across another novice in service to the many-faced god. He is blind, yet can tell if candles have burned out.

Re: Three questions (spoilers)

I agree with everything Sword said but I'm leaning toward Sword. To save Podrick I think she'll agree to hunt down Jaime. It'd be the first sign of depth for her character in my opinion so I'm leaning that way.

I hope the blindness is temporary. I think it is, but who knows.

Re: Three questions (spoilers)

Hello all, its been a long time, but I've finished the book and now returned.

The champion, as Sword says, is an unGregor. That's a good description. I began calling it FrankenClegane as I was reading.

I think Brienne called out either Jaimie or Renly. or maybe Saphires. It saved her before. I've been mulling that one around for a week or so, and I don't know. The real question, was it a word that will save her, or is that the end of Brienne. I think Brienne is dead.

I think Arya's eyesight loss is a training thing. And maybe a little punishment. Not for killing him, but for doing something only Arya of House Stark would do. That is how the series begins after all, Eddard taking the head of a deserter from the wall. Arya's eyesight will return.

The difference between Others and wights. Wights are the animated corpses of the dead. Others are the magical spirits of winter who possess the power to animate the corpses, create unholy cold in their presence, and are wicked quick with an odd almost lightsaber like sword. I think the Others possess a number of ice cold powers as of yet unrevealed. When describing the Others, I've often used the phrase Ice Demons. So many thousand years ago the Others brought a winter that wouldn't end, the Heroes of that Age sought the Children of the Forest to fight them. Yada yada yada, plenty of that on other message boards and in the first 3 books. I don't know how exactly the Others are put down, but I do know where the final battle took place. The battle that vanquished Winter, where Winterfell.

I'm not so sure Brienne is dead. If she is, then why not tie it up nicely? Why have the cliffhanger of her shouting a word, without revealing what that word is or why it was said? Personally, I think that the word had to have been something that would cut through to UnCat's heart, or what's left of it. UnCat would be unmoved by greed or pity, so it would have to do with either vengeance of some type, or with one of her children. I'm thinking it would have to be "Arya," or "Sansa," or something to that effect.

Re: Three questions (spoilers)

My idea is that Brienne can't have shouted anyone's name, because then it would have said "She screamed a name.", and I feel that a name can't really be counted as a word.

But then again, Martin has made sure to leave hints that may be true or false in every other paragraph or so, and I think this particular one is an intentional trick.

Re: Three questions (spoilers)

Maybe she shouted, 'Freeeeeeedoooom!' [cue bagpipes].

I'm guessing that it's going be something none of us guess. I can just see George sitting in his study, his fingers steepled, a Monty Burns-esque 'Excellent' on his lips, thinking of us going mad trying to work it out for seven years, and then hitting us with something we never expected but that is perfectly right...

For what it's worth, though, I would agree with Thad's logic that it's a word, not a name, but I certainly wouldn't bet the house on it.

FrankenClegane, I like that....

Now that's funny!

As to FrankenClegane, I was thinking more along the lines of Gregorstein.

AU, Brienne could be dead. The word could be the start of the Thoros POV. We see that the Myrish priest has misgivings about unCat (whatever, she's still a greedy, self-absorbed, vengeful harpy) and the murder of Brienne and Pod may motivate him to part company with her. Thoros knows much about R'hllor and his powers. He loves the common man. He also spent much time at court, so he should have decent insight into some major players. He could also be a thorn in the side of the High Septon. And lastly, Thoros might take up Stannis' cause.

Jeroam: there is good reason to think Brienne is alive, but it's a spoiler and I'm not sure how to do the spoiler tags here.

Which brings me to another question that has been bothering me since I read that chapter- why on earth do any of them follow UnCat? It's quite obvious that many of them are unhappy following her. And as for Brienne's murder being the turning point, apparently there had been many many murders previous to hers- why should hers be any more inspirational?

And yes, that chapter made me despise UnCat. Catelyn Stark was okay in my book, but MAN I wish someone would do away with UnCat. Maybe she and Melisandre will fight to the death and die together.

Re: Three questions (spoilers)

What if someone found and raised Lyssa? UnCat and UnLyssa going at it would be crazy.

AU, it seems that UnCat has been focusing on Freys and Lannisters, which is okay with Thoros. But Brienne's claims to serving Cat and UnCat's betrayal of Brienne could make Thoros realize that UnCat's agenda is no longer compatible with his own.

Nah, she was always despicable. I wish mellisandre would throw her to the fires.

Re: Three questions (spoilers)

I wonder what everyone else thinks about Arya's loss of sight?
I admit to being quite surprised when she was asked to give that up - Neither the old man or Jaqen were blind, so why is this a normal part of the training?

Will her vision come back? Most of me hopes so, although the tragic nature of Arya going through life without sight and relying on her other (probably superior) abilities has an appeal too.
I really wish GRRM had killed Gregor off, but I guess that would have been to easy a death (although one richly deserved!)
And as for Brienne, I think she will have survived although I would be surprised as Lem seemed very keen on killing her and would have taken some talking too to release the rope!!

*****What do you think the word is that Brienne says?
If I had to guess I would say it was "Ice" in answer to the question "what is the name of your sword". It has to be something that stops the hanging, but I just cant think of a single word that would do it really. Maybe "Renly?"

*****What is going to happen with Arya Involing her eyesight?
Im assuming this is either a normal part of her training or a temporary punishment for killing the night's watch deserter.
Im inclined to believe the former...it goes along with the "giving up herself" theme.

Does Brienne know that her sword is made from Ice? And would shouting "Renly" really save her from being hanged?

Damn, there are just too many words in the English language.
