I felt a bit confused by the dreamer books too; I know there were the odd 'cutesy' moments in Eddings' previous works, but it seems to be constant in elder gods(?).

I think I'm going to have to go back and reread the belgariad et al to see if my brain has just changed my memories of those books to suit what I like now.
