| Re: WoT=boring? I have read all of the books and I will agree that some of it was a bit difficult to read and quite possibly some of it could have even been left out, but never once did I feel as though what I was reading was not "related with the main picture". A twelve book series is an astonishing accomplishment in Robert Jordan's life and the story, over all, is an excellent one. Rahl |

| Re: WoT=boring? Hey, I am not trying to be some fanboi that worships this author. I am only saying that some of the books in this series are excellent and if you like the fantasy genre you would be doing yourself a favor if you were to read them, and I never did find any of the books to be "plotless", though at times I did feel as though the story was "meandering". Then how do you know it was boring? I thought book 10 was the only really boring book and that wouldn't have been to bad if we didn't have to wait so long for book 11, and it wasn't really boring as much as it was a giant prologue. | |

| Re: WoT=boring? That's just what I usually do Jason. With the wait between books, the other various books read during that time, it is nice to brush up on the previous characters and the situations. ![]() |

My "boring" accusation came from friends who read books 9 and 10 - so, it really wasn't my opinion but theirs. I still have to say though that this series could have and should have been wrapped up much sooner than the projected 13 books. Thanks for the correction! ![]() -g- | |

| Re: WoT=boring? Slow I think is the term to use here. Some people enjoy snailpace novels - some people even enjoyed Crossroads of Twilight. Personally, I found the last few books (I've read up to CoT) very boring, very slow and very pointless. The first few were entertaining, but derivative. One real problem Jordan has is not just that he overdescribes with a limited vocabulary, but also that he can't write action scenes particularly well. It just isn't engaging when he's saying some random name of a move that no one can understand in a sword fight. If it had been a trilogy it would have been quite good - probably deserving of a place in my top 50 reads, just about. As it is, the series has just deteriorated into below average. I want to make this clear - I like slow books, I like descriptive books, I even like meandering or plotless books - eg Gormenghast, Invisible Cities and Book of the New Sun. The problem is that Jordan isn't a good enough stylist to pull it off, his characters aren't great, and they are unkillable, his worldbuilding is only superficially deep and the plot is very predictable. Expanding that into 10,000 pages isn't necessary. If he was doing something totally original, or writing a series that was truly excellent in other ways, the slow pace could be forgiven, possibly even enhance the series. But the problem is that his prose uses such a limited vocabulary that his description serves no purpose. |
