Re: one hit wonders

I'll have to think about this one for a bit. But I have to say, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida is a good choice. But only the full-length version. Have you seen the film "Manhunter" (the first appearnce on film of Hannibal the Cannibal)? It's used to very good effect in the climax of that film. I'd recommend the film for that as well as generally. It is much superior to its recent remake, "Red Dragon".

Re: one hit wonders

Doop.

I don't know if anyone will remember that song. Eerily it got to No.1 in the UK. You know there's something wrong with the charts when a song that basically has someone going 'doop doop, doop doop, doop doop, doop doop doop doop doop doop' to an old dance-hall beat tops the charts.

'I Wanna Be a Hippy' was funny aswell.

God, Spook, thanks for reminding me...I actually have both of those songs somewhere...

And what about Gazza's 'Fog on the Tyne is all mine, all mine'...One of my old, old favourites would have to be 'The One and Only' by Chesney Hawkes...Gotta check out a 'where are they now' site

Re: one hit wonders

The one hit wonder has to be Procul Harems "Whiter shade of pale". How many times has it come around and climbed back into the charts? And I defy anyone to remember "homberg" or anything else they produced.

Re: one hit wonders

Seems like I've heard other songs by Procul Harem, but darned if I can remember any of them. I bought whatever album Whiter Shade of Pale was on just so I could have that song, and I don't remember what else was on that album. Oh, well...

Some of my own one hit wonders--

Seasons in the Sun--Terry Jacks
Honey--Bobby Goldsboro
The Night Chicago Died--Paperlace
In the Year 2525--Zagger and Evans

Re: one hit wonders

I didn't say they didn't record other numbers- indeed, I could probably sing you some (a threat to strike terror into the boldest heart) merely that they were impressively unmemorable, that the "Procul Harem greatest hits" album would be- compact,

This is merely citing the songs, not claiming any affection for them, isn't it?

Oh, well, one way or the other
Unit four plus two "The concrete and the clay"

Remember the Anfield Rap? Sort of of a similar theme to Gazza's song but with John Barnes and Ian Rush. There's a work of evil if ever there was one.

Let's also have a special mention for 'Cotton Eye Joe' by the Rednex and 'Swamp Thing' by the Grid.

I'll also give an honourary mention to Whigfield's 'Saturday Night' because I had a very disturbing crush on her as a teenager.

Re: one hit wonders

I lived in England from 1988-98, if it came out earlier or later I missed it...thank god...

Rednex had a couple more hits though, in the last few years, they just weren't around for a long time...

Huh? In which alternative reality?

Let's see - there was that band The Nixons, a shameless Pearl Jam rip-off, even before Creed. I think they only had the one remotely hit-ish song, 'Sister'.

Candlebox pretty much just had one really popular song, 'Cover Me', and then released one more album and vanished.

Did they even let that wretched 80s band who played 'Don't Close Your eyes' record any more material?

I guess Mazzy Star only had one smash hit - 'Fade Into You' - but all their songs are really good, worth the search if you want some stripped-down, hautning 90s depression with just a touch of the blues.
