Meh, Boromir wasn't really my favorite character, but that was definitely my favorite scene in the first movie, I must have watched it 30 times after downloading. Maybe I'm just as warped as you (though I doubt it
), but I think its a culmination of the strong sacrificing themselves for the weak, and the way he just kept on going with a dozen arrows in him, (and like you said...)even while knowing the people he was dying for were doing something he didn't agree with.
